Learning Objective:
Use inverse operations to find numbers.

Intended Outcome:
Using known elements to find the unknown (algebra).

Materials:
Pack of cards (with face cards left out).

Game Objective:
To work out your number.

Instructions:
This game is to be played in groups of three (one dealer and two players rotating the roles).

  1. The dealer gives each player a card which they hold on their forehead without looking at it.
  2. The dealer tells the two players the sum, product, or difference of the two numbers.
  3. Players must work out what their card is, by listening to the total and looking at the other player’s card.

 

Variations:
For more of a challenge, play with three players and a dealer.
