Level: Year 2 & Year 3
Author: Anna Bock
Description:
In this activity students have an opportunity to engage in many aspects of mathematics in the context of a game such as:
- Subsitising quantities on the dice
- Estimating the total quantity collected
- Counting using efficient strategies to find the total (moving away from counting by ones)
- Adding collections to calculate how many altogether
- Comparing quantities to find the difference
This activity covers the following Australian Curriculum – Mathematics Content:
- Solve simple addition and subtraction problems using a range of efficient mental and written strategies (ACMNA030)
- Recall addition facts for single- digit numbers and related subtraction facts to develop increasingly efficient mental strategies for computation (ACMNA055)
Notes for parents:
- This game can be played many times as the totals will often be different and the focus of the mathematics can change
- A video included to help with how to play the game
