In Student/Parent Resources, Year 4

Level: Year 4

Author: Marcus Garrett

Description:

In this activity you’ll investigate and explain what happens when we add, subtract and multiply pairs of even numbers, pairs of odd numbers, or a mix of even and odd numbers.  You’ll explain why the result of a calculation is even or odd by looking at the numbers used in the calculation and predict whether the answer to your calculation will be even or odd.

You’ll explore some resources that introduce even and odd numbers and their ‘properties’ and then explore a ‘rich task’ in which you’ll solve problems related to organising numbers and objects according to the patterns they make.

This activity covers the following Australian Curriculum – Mathematics Content:

  • Investigate and use the properties of odd and even numbers (ACMNA071)
