According to a new Jobs Rated report from CareerCast.com, mathematicians have outranked the competition to secure the title of best job for 2014.

Mathematicians are now enjoying high demand from employers, general employment growth rates, versatility within the field and generous salaries. According to the stats collated by CareerCast.com, the average salary of a mathematician is around $101,360 per annum, with a projected job growth of 23% by the year 2022.

Mathematics is also touted as both a rewarding and engaging field to work in – employees are now finding themselves in education, government agencies, top tier firms and research roles.

Followed behind mathematics for best job were university professor (tenure), statistician and actuary.
