Many children find subtraction to be challenging so making connections with addition can be beneficial

Helping children to explore, continue and describe number patterns can lead to an early understanding of algebraic concepts.

Helping children learn more about factors and multiples can help them better understand multiplication and division.

Estimation can help children to make reasonable guesses at solutions and check the accuracy of their calculations.

Regular practise of addition facts can help children build their confidence in maths.

Learning the multiplication facts (or times tables) up to 10 x 10 is an important skill for all children to develop.

Once children are familiar with their multiplication facts (times tables) they can begin to learn strategies to solve multi-digit multiplication problems, including the Area Model.

In this activity let’s look at what happens when we add, subtract and multiply pairs of even numbers, pairs of odd numbers, or even a mix of even and odd numbers!
