The National Numeracy Learning Progressions (NNLP) have been designed to support teachers to successfully engage students with the numeracy demands of the Australian Curriculum. Each progression (or indicator) describes observable behaviours that can aid teachers in making evidence-based decisions about student development and future learning.

* Please note that in March 2020, ACARA released Version 3 of the National Numeracy Learning Progressions. To check out these updates, visit: https://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/resources/national-literacy-and-numeracy-learning-progressions/version-3-of-national-literacy-and-numeracy-learning-progressions/

The NNLP Version 2 covers the three elements of the Australian Curriculum (Number Sense & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry and Statistics & Probability) and is divided into 15 sub-elements.

To further support teachers to unpack the NNLP Version 2, AMSI Schools have developed a series of ‘I Can’ statements, mapped against each indicator listed under each of the 15-sub-elements. These ‘I Can’ Statements have been updated as of October 2018, following the release of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus version of the NNLP Version 2.

You can access these here by downloading each sub-element’s ‘I Can’ Statement in PDF format.

We encourage teachers to use the ‘I Can’ statements in conjunction with the learning outcomes in the Australian Curriculum.
